Alderley Edge 5 v Knutsford 4

Match: Knutsford 4 Away to Alderley Edge 5

Date: 7 October 2010

It were warm down Alderley way. Very warm. Even the locals were complaining. First away was big-hitting debutant David O'Brien at 5 against a lively opponent Dan. Dave took the first with some powerful hitting. The next two were nip and tuck, Dan just edging them by avoiding David's fearsome forehand. It were now very, very warm! David ground out the fourth but went down 9-4 in the fifth - what an introduction to league squash! Steve O'Hare played at 3 against the rangy Chris. It took him a couple of games to work out a strategy, which involved a lot of running. Steve pulled back to 2-1 down, and the fourth went to 8-8, Steve narrowly losing 10-9 - unlucky! Fortunately we had the use of a second court, where Kynan at 4 played yet another young runner Tim. Kynan took the first easily, but as the rallies got longer, Kynan ran out of puff and went down 3-1. Graham was up against yet another fit young 'un Adam, and ran himself into the ground but to no avail, and no points either. So, 4-0 down, Geoff was slightly relieved to face a more mature opponent Rob (Chris's dad). Easy ride? no chance! An hour later and 8-8 in the fifth, Rob called 'One' and promptly tinned it, gifting Geoff a 3-2 win and escape to the bar. Overall, a really good contest in spite of the score.
