Match: Knutsford 1 Away to Grove Park 3

Date: 7th October 2010

Unbeaten knutsford 1 turned up confident, heads held high, spirits strong and high fives all round.... Grove park 3 had the show court all prepared (nice and pink) and we were ready...... that was the highlight of the evening. What ensued was most painful except an exceptional display by the burkester and of course the smithernator. The signs of a damp evening were on the cards as a leaking roof moved the match to a nice green court.

First up was Stevie C at 4 against a young lady Miss West, or was it Wade or Ward.... why cant everyone be called Smith like us!!!... Risley going to change his name by deed poll and submit a formal complaint to the league for such confusing names and sickly coloured courts!!! Is squash supposed to be played inside a cake? In the meantime our man played most gentlemanly and gave the 1st game to the young lady....and the second....then decided that he wasn't going to get a date and starting playing squash in the third. Kirsty took the game 3-1 and ksc got off to a bad start.

On came burkey at 3 against a young chap by the name of Wade. not yet having been introduced to a razor. After trying to knock the spots off the ball in the warm-up the little fella just couldn't cope with our man who was on fire and JB won easily 9-1, 9-5, 9-6.

Next up was Risley at 5 against senior Ward. Undeserving of a match report he lost 3-0, now without wasting good words on a poor performance lets go onto the next match. Mr Smith at 2..... Chris that is, sporting a very swollen foot against mad man signor Lomax. Wild swings from Lomax, lets, arguments, Lomax smacking the ball like he wanted to bury it in the plaster wall with a swing that was ready to take poor old smithy's head off he went quickly and dangerously up 9-1. Smithy got angry and took the next 9-5 but ran out of juice with his foot and went down 3-1.

Now with the first loss of the season and our star player not yet having taken part we at least wanted to watch some squash. Did we get it?? Well not in the first. Risley watched the warm up and departed to get a shower, boasting to mad man Lomax in the changing rooms that he should watch our no1. Oh dear! When he returned the smithernator was game ball down and lost it 9-0!!! What was going on? The smithster then remembered that he was a good squash player and delighted us with his usual drives to length and punishing drop shots, he won the next games 9-3, 9-4 and 9-0. Phew!!!

So we got 8 points at least. Chips and chilli went down well and was delightfully served by the female staff. Knutsford could learn a thing or 2!!
