Knutsford 2 v Wilmslow 1

Match: Knutsford 2 Home to Wilmslow 1

Date: 21st October 2010

Just a handful of points for K2 last week. But very brave performances from all concerned. Walt, our only winner, got off his sickbed to play. Originally down to play at no 1, he was played at 5. Evo was worried that the gulf in class between Walt and his opponent would be obvious, but his worries were unfounded as Walt proceeded to play like a no 6, let alone a no 5. Love - one down. Then our man re-discovered his zip and started skipping about the court a la Greg. Walt went on to win the next 3. Good man. Next on was JW jr. All was looking well in the first game as JW continued where he had left off at Prestbury a few weeks earlier - sensible powerful squash, winning game 1. Confident in another victory Evo went off for some remedial web editor training from Tony H. Five minutes later Evo returned to see JW concede match point - he had lost the next 3 games and only notched up 3 points. JW was traumatised. At time of writing, there was no satisfactory explanation for this loss. Simon who had been playing in Div 5 previously then went fearlessly onto court at no 1 to face the vastly experienced Mike Troup. At first it looked like another battering was on the cards -3-9, 2-9. But in the 3rd game Simon continued to plug away and rallied effectively, but eventually lost 9-7. An excellent never-say-die performance. 2 strings to one down and Robbo on next. The sensible money was on Neil's opponent. The record books will show that Robbo lost 3-1, but they will not reveal the pain and effort that our man went through dragging his 18 stone body back and forth up and down the court rally after rally and foaming at the mouth. What a good effort and well played Neil. Especially well played for turning out despite an injured knee. Last man on was Smithy, who was also injured - another bad back. But went forward gamely to play at no 2. A bit of a battering - just 4 points in 3 games. But again, maximum respect for willingly playing at no 2 when injured.
