The Faltering Fourths felt the full force of the February fallout, as injuries and other 'lame' excuses played havoc with the upper echelons. Andy Dalton helped to fill the gap, facing young mobile rugby player Chris at 5. Andy never got his eye in, or maybe the sepia-tinted floor put him off; anyway he could muster only 5 points - unlucky Andy! Another Occasional at 4, Dave Bentley did better against the experienced Rob Leech, covering the court pretty well for a Veteran, and managed to pinch a game before going down 3-1. At 3 Kynan took on 'perpetual motion' Jim Toole. Kynan had the shots but lacked a little confidence, allowing Jim to run them down. He came very close in the third but lost 10-8 in the game and 3-0 in the match.
So, nothing to play for except the honour of the school. Graham Thomson at 2 played another runner, Phil. After losing the first while calibrating is backhand, Graham bounced back to take the second with some wall-hugging high drives. Phil upped the pace but Graham stuck with him - literally as Phil tried a bit of bump and grind - but in the end went down 3-1: gutsy performance Graham! Finally at 1, Guy Hill made a welcome return but was gobsmacked when his opponent turned up: none other than turncoat Andy Greenhill. In Division 5. No kidding. No matter what Guy tried, Andy cut it off with a boast or a drop. So unfair. Guy came close in the third with some deeper hitting, but ultimately lost 3-0.
Only 2 points overall for the team, a meagre reward for some plucky performances - thanks to all for turning out!
