Knutsford 2 v Macc Leisure

Match:  Knutsford 2 home to Macc  Leisure Centre

Date:  17 /03/ 2011

Seconds battle it out with Macc

The evening got off to a high octane start with super fit Costello taking on super-duper fit Leo Oppenheim, Macc's roller-blading no 1. At first sight it looked like a 5-setter was on the cards, with both players retrieving superbly. The first game was a close one, but Oppenheim took it possibly because he made the fewer errors. Sadly in the second, Costello's width and length deserted him, allowing his opponent to take the game fairly comfortably. The third saw the Macc man's relentless retrieving wear Costello down. Only 1 point won by Steve in the third.  3-0 to Macc.

Next on (at 2nd string) was Walt to play Alex, brother of Leo, who, whilst not being as fit as his brother, had a wicked range of shots.  Walt played a thoughtful game but looked a bit rusty against an opponent who has only lost twice all season. Another fairly comfortable win for Macc - 3-0.

Robinson went on next and got the match back on track. Those silky skills of old, sadly rarely seen nowadays, were once again in evidence. Apart from a bit of poncing around in the second game, Robinson was magisterial and took the string comfortably 3-0.

Next it was Evo's turn. It was a tough match which saw Evo winning in five. Much credit for the victory was due to Robinson for reminding Evo that he should strike the ball wide and deep.

2-2.

It was now down to Ward Senior to earn those 5 bonus points for a team win. He had eaten a cheese omelette 45 minutes previously, and it was obvious. The normally zippy man from Pickmere looked as if he had lead in his shoes. He was 2-0 down in no time. It started to look a bit better in the third as it appeared that the omelette had by now travelled into the Ward small intestine - he perked up and took the game.  However, in the fourth game, Ward's biorythms signalled that a post-prandial nap was in order. JW dozed his way to a 9-3 loss.

Only 2 more match reports to be written this season HURRAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
